OpenAI has put composer predictions into beta for Codex Pro users. According to the company, the feature uses the current conversation and the way a person talks to Codex to suggest what they might type next.

Featured Source

A Codex engineering lead said the predictions are available in the desktop app, are included with Pro plans and do not consume usage. OpenAI called composer predictions one of its most-loved features in internal testing.

The early accounts are striking, but they are individual experiences rather than a benchmark. One user said that after a week he was accepting roughly 40% to 50% of suggestions with the Tab key. Another said Codex was predicting one in three of his messages at his latest check.

The feature drew plenty of praise for its convenience, along with criticism of limiting it to Pro subscribers.

elvis@omarsar0Great feature in Codex. I have had my own composer prediction tool in my agent orchestrator for months. It's tunable and adapts to my preferences as I use it more. In fact, I use smaller models for this, like Haiku and Luna. It's a nice quality-of-life little feature that makes agents a bit more proactive and boosts productivity.7h

Tibo@thsottiauxDay 5/ Composer predictions in the desktop app. Often leads to a double take with how on point they are. Included in the Pro plans without consuming usage.6h
