Stanley Wei announced Pine Computer on October 9, pitching it as a cloud environment designed around AI agents instead of people. Wei argued that agents become slow, costly and unreliable when they must use computers built for humans through a heavy software harness.
Robert Scoble described the usual agent workflow as a loop of screenshots, reasoning and clicks, and said Pine instead gives the model access to what sits behind the screen. Another explanation of the service said developers can use Pine’s SDK to create a cloud computer, give its built-in agent a task in plain English and let it work with a browser, files and a shell. The application can receive updates and collect the output when the agent finishes.
The early benchmark account was mixed. Scoble reported that Pine completed 78% of the steps in SaaS-Bench tasks, compared with 74% for Claude Code, but finished fewer entire tasks: 27% versus 31%.
