A $10M animal-intelligence XPRIZE and a forecast that Colossal could birth mammals outside the womb

Peter Diamandis says Palmer Luckey is backing a new XPRIZE aimed at communicating with wild animals in their own language. He also says Colossal’s Ben Lamm predicted the company could birth mammals fully outside the womb within 24 months.

TLDR

In posts shared September 27, 2026, Peter Diamandis said Palmer Luckey is backing a $10M XPRIZE focused on animal intelligence, with the goal of communicating with wild animals in their own language. Diamandis said Luckey was more concerned about bad actors using increasingly capable AI than about AI itself becoming dangerous. He also recounted Ben Lamm’s view that tens of thousands of mammoths could ultimately be possible and Lamm’s prediction that Colossal could birth mammals fully outside the womb within 24 months.

Peter H. Diamandis, MD@PeterDiamandisBen Lamm gave us a fascinating look at where biology is heading. We talked about Colossal’s work to bring back entire populations of extinct species, not simply individual animals, and why he believes tens of thousands of mammoths could ultimately be possible. We discussed artificial wombs, with Ben predicting that Colossal could birth mammals fully ex utero within 24 months, as well as the growing ability to engineer genotypes, use AI to understand complex biological patterns, and run thousands of simulated experiments before entering the lab. His broader point was just as important: if we back up everything else that matters to us, why aren’t we building the infrastructure to back up species?13d
