TLDR

Muse Gadgets offers open-source ESP32 and Linux SDKs for building peripherals that connect to Muse. Its site lists projects using screens, microphones, sensors and Raspberry Pi boards, with code under Apache 2.0. The examples use third-party hardware; a TV stick is marked coming soon, while claiming Muse Home Link reserves a place rather than placing an order.

Muse Gadgets offers developers a way to connect their own hardware to Muse through open-source device SDKs and firmware. The project's site describes devices people build themselves, using an off-the-shelf ESP32 board or a Raspberry Pi to add displays, buttons, sensors and actuators.

Featured Source

Getting started involves obtaining an SDK token and choosing a project idea. The site links to the code for both device SDKs and firmware and states that it uses the Apache 2.0 license, with the software provided as-is and without warranty.

Screens, audio and a Linux connection

The ESP32 SDK is intended to connect a board to Muse with a screen, audio input and output, or other sensors. The Linux SDK targets Raspberry Pi boards and other Linux computers. Its description suggests adding custom commands for system administration or a Home Assistant setup.

The project examples give those ideas a few concrete forms. A Waveshare board pairs a round 1.75-inch AMOLED touchscreen with push-to-talk, a speaker, microphone and battery. A Seeed reTerminal E1002 offers a color e-ink display that the site proposes using for a morning briefing, reminders or a shopping list. Another example uses a Raspberry Pi 5 with Home Assistant and other Linux applications.

These are examples on the project's page, rather than a Digg hands-on test. The site notes that the displayed devices come from other companies and that Meta does not endorse or warrant them.

Some hardware is still waiting to ship

The page also describes an HDMI stick for asking Muse to put material on a TV, but marks it as coming soon.

Muse Home Link has a separate claim process for Muse subscribers in the United States. The site says it will notify users when the device becomes available to ship. Claiming it holds a place in line; it does not place an order.

Federico Viticci@viticciThis was almost way too easy, @natfriedman @alexandr_wang 😮 I turned my Xteink eReader into an always-on Muse pocket display for Calliope (my Muse) to display itself and show status updates. And this attaches with MagSafe to my phone, so I can always see relevant updates from Muse by just turning my phone around. The setup flow in the Muse app was super smooth and you can just ask Muse to load or automate content on the display. I genuinely love the hacker-friendly aspect of this. Well done.7d
