Dexerto reported that Blizzard wiped the gold from Mohamed “Ziqo” Beshir’s mage, including gold he had farmed himself, and left that character with nine silver. GamesRadar separately quoted Ziqo saying, “Blizzard did sweep up all my gold” and “they left me with nine silver.”
That does not make every dramatic detail around the case equally firm. GamesRadar’s headline described the stash as “$200 worth of gold,” but its own story text tied that figure to an outside estimate from an X user discussing prices on “shady websites,” not to any Blizzard-published valuation. Dexerto also reported that Ziqo’s other characters kept their gold and that his account had received no ban or suspension at that point.
Why players focused on this case
According to Dexerto’s report, clips from Ziqo’s stream showed a level 1 character trading him 380 gold before a second level 1 character handed over another 175. Dexerto also said Ziqo remarked on stream that the gold could not have been earned naturally, then accepted both trades anyway.
That sequence landed badly with some players because of the timing. Dexerto reported that a $100,000 dueling tournament was set to begin Oct. 17, and critics argued the windfall gave Ziqo a head start. The outlet also cited a forum post arguing that gifted gold lets streamers level professions and buy materials and consumables from the auction house instead of farming them themselves.
What Blizzard had warned beforehand
As Dexerto reported, Blizzard community manager Kaivax posted on the official forums Sept. 28 that the company would increasingly act against buyers as well as sellers, which could mean removing illicit gold or closing accounts. The post, as quoted by Dexerto, said recipients who “knew or should-have-known” the gold was illegitimate could also face account action.
In Dexerto’s account of what followed, Blizzard wiped the mage’s gold but did not ban or suspend the account. Dexerto also reported that Blizzard had not said whether it would take further action against Ziqo’s account beyond removing the gold from that character.
