GTA VI will not stream exclusively through Xbox or to PCs, Xbox chief strategy officer Matthew Ball clarified, correcting the central claims in an earlier report about Microsoft's streaming plans.
Ball said Xbox is looking forward to launching the game on November 19, adding that it “will not be streaming exclusively or to PC.” His statement rules out the cloud route to PC play described in the original report.
Tom Warren acknowledged the correction, saying the arrangement was more complicated than he had initially reported. The Verge's updated article removes the exclusivity claim and adds a correction confirming that GTA VI will not be streamed to PCs.
The deal's full scope is still unclear
The Verge still reports that Xbox has secured streaming rights for the game's launch, citing sources familiar with Microsoft's plans. How long the agreement lasts remains unclear.
The updated article suggests the arrangement may be limited to streaming on Xbox consoles. That is The Verge's interpretation of Ball's statement, not a confirmed list of supported devices. The report does not settle whether the other browsers and apps that ordinarily support Xbox Cloud Gaming will be able to stream GTA VI.
Correction, October 7: An earlier version of this story reported exclusive Xbox streaming rights and suggested PC players could use cloud streaming at launch. Xbox has clarified that the deal is not exclusive and will not include streaming to PCs.
