TLDR

Deadline Day Live, citing Sky News, says Andy Burnham has opened the door to scrapping the ban on drinking alcohol in football stands, arguing that football supporters are treated unfairly compared with fans of other sports. It says the UK Football Policing Unit has requested talks with Burnham, warning that a change could create policing and supporter-safety challenges. One commenter opposed the idea, arguing that fans are comfortable drinking before and after games and at half-time, and that drinking in the stands would cause problems.

Nigel Harris@NigelBluesI like some well intentioned gestures by Burnham but a BIG FAT NO to this. It's ok for him in corporate or exec areas but it would be a nightmare & cause problems. He's not in touch here. Football fans are comfortable with a drink before, after games & half-time. Leave it be.17d
