Tencent has reportedly signed a five-year deal with Oracle worth about $7 billion for access to roughly 100,000 AI chips, according to follow-on reports that cite the Financial Times. A MarketWatch report reprinted by Morningstar said two people familiar with the matter spoke to the Financial Times about the arrangement. In the inspected Financial Times capture, only the headline was available: “China’s Tencent leases 100,000 chips from Oracle to accelerate AI push.”

Those follow-on reports said Tencent would access that computing capacity through Oracle-operated data centers in Southeast Asia. The MarketWatch report reprinted by Morningstar said the reported agreement covers a five-year lease across a number of Oracle data centers in the region. Yeni Şafak, also citing the Financial Times, similarly reported that the arrangement spans multiple data centers across Southeast Asia.

That same Yeni Şafak report, citing the Financial Times, said the arrangement would give Tencent access to advanced AI chips unavailable in mainland China.

Neither Tencent nor Oracle has publicly confirmed the reported arrangement, according to Yeni Şafak. Separately, the MarketWatch report reprinted by Morningstar said Tencent and Oracle did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
