SecurityWeek separately reported that Wagenius was sentenced for hacking into AT&T and Verizon systems.

Reports say Wagenius and his accomplices obtained login credentials for victim networks using stolen credentials, including through a hacking tool called SSH Brute that he helped develop. The Register said the conspirators advertised stolen data on XSS, BreachForums, X, and Telegram, while BleepingComputer reported that extortion attempts included threats to post stolen data on cybercrime forums. Both outlets reported that the conspirators attempted to extort at least $1 million in total, and that some stolen data was sold.

In addition to the prison sentence, Wagenius was ordered to pay $294,978 in restitution, according to BleepingComputer and The Register.
