ASUS has opened preorders for the ROG Xbox Ally X20, its first gaming handheld with an OLED display. The standalone model costs $1,299.99 in the United States and is scheduled for release on October 15 through ASUS and Best Buy.
VideoCardz reports that the X20 uses a 7.4-inch OLED panel with a 1920-by-1080 resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, HDR and a claimed peak brightness of 1,400 nits. FreeSync Premium Pro covers a variable refresh-rate range from 30Hz to 120Hz.
The premium is mostly for the screen and controls
Inside, the handheld retains the Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme processor, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB PCIe 4.0 SSD and an 80Wh battery found in the $999.99 ROG Xbox Ally X. The $300 increase therefore buys the OLED display, an anniversary design and revised controls rather than a faster core platform.
Those control changes include magnetic TMR joysticks, a rotating D-pad that switches between four-way and eight-way input, rubberized grips and reshaped bumpers, triggers and face buttons. ASUS is also selling a $2,499.99 bundle with ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 glasses, a dbrand case, a Pelican protector case and a 68W adapter.
