TLDR

Tencent has launched TenPayGo, a standalone payment app designed for international visitors to China, Bloomberg reports. The app lets travelers use Visa, Mastercard, Apple Pay and other supported payment methods across tens of millions of merchants on the Weixin Pay network. It also includes services such as ride-hailing, food delivery, public-transport payments in Shenzhen and departure tax refunds. Tencent had tested the app for several months and is positioning it against Ant Group’s Alipay as China prepares to host APEC meetings in Shenzhen.

Tencent says that network covers tens of millions of shops, restaurants and attractions. TenPayGo also extends beyond checkout: the app includes food delivery, ride-hailing and departure tax-refund services, and visitors in Shenzhen can use it for public transportation.

A simpler front door to China’s QR-payment system

Mobile wallets dominate everyday payments in China, which can create friction for visitors carrying foreign cards. TenPayGo packages Tencent’s cross-border payment connections into a dedicated app instead of requiring travelers to navigate the broader WeChat ecosystem.

The launch builds on Tencent’s existing work with international card networks and overseas wallets. In May, the company said PayPal users would be able to scan Weixin Pay codes at participating merchants and announced multilingual guidance and fee waivers ahead of the 2026 APEC meetings in Shenzhen.

Tencent had tested TenPayGo for several months before the full launch. The app gives it a more direct answer to Ant Group’s Alipay, which also connects foreign cards to China’s merchant-payment network.
