Honor has launched its Magic 9 flagship phones in China, and early coverage centered on the top-end Magic 9 Pro Max as the series’ showcase device. The phone’s biggest hooks are its camera system, ARRI-linked video features, and a notably large battery. The Verge Android Authority
A flagship built around cameras
The Magic 9 Pro Max uses a rear setup with two 200-megapixel cameras: a 200MP main camera and a 200MP telephoto. It also includes a 50MP ultrawide, giving the phone one of the more aggressive camera specs in current flagship-phone coverage. The Verge Android Authority
That hardware is part of a broader push by Honor to position the Pro Max as a more serious video and imaging device, not just another spec-heavy premium phone. Android Authority described the handset as a dual-200MP flagship aimed at more advanced mobile video capture, while The Verge highlighted a design revamp that puts the camera system front and center.Android Authority The Verge
ARRI’s role is in color and video tools
A big part of that pitch is Honor’s collaboration with ARRI. The Magic 9 Pro Max supports Arri LogC3 capture, 14 preset Arri Look LUTs, access to ARRI’s broader LUT library, and the APV 10-bit 4:2:2 codec for video. The Verge
Honor has framed the partnership as a way to bring established cinema color workflows to a phone. In a Fast Company essay, Honor product president Fang Fei wrote that the company integrated ARRI’s image science and Look Library into the Magic 9 Pro Max as part of a push to make cinematic tools more accessible on mobile devices.Fast Company
Bigger camera bump, bigger battery
Honor also says the redesigned camera island is more space-efficient internally, which it used to help fit an 8,800mAh battery into the phone. The Verge reported that the battery is now up to 40 percent silicon content, while Android Authority likewise described the device as using silicon-carbon battery tech at that 8,800mAh capacity. The Verge Android Authority
That combination of oversized battery capacity and camera-first marketing stands out because many flagship phones still force tradeoffs between imaging hardware, internal space, and endurance. Honor’s message here is that the redesign is meant to relieve some of that pressure.
Global release still to come
For now, the launch is a China debut. Honor has confirmed that an international launch is coming, but as of launch-day reporting the company had not said when that broader release would happen. The Verge Android Authority
