TLDR

YouTube announced a new set of creator tools at Made On YouTube, including Studio feedback for drafts, dynamic thumbnails that can recommend among three versions for different audience segments, and a planned test for up to three cuts of a video. The company is also bringing Gemini Omni into a conversational assistant for Shorts and YouTube Create. Separately, YouTube says Custom Feeds will arrive for U.S. users this fall, while creators can organize Shorts into seasons and episodes. Several features are announced or coming rather than broadly available today.

YouTube used its Made On YouTube event on Sept. 23 to announce a broader set of tools aimed at the work around making a video: finding an idea, polishing a cut, testing packaging and managing a community. The most concrete additions land in YouTube Studio, where the company says creators will get new Insights and Research destinations, personalized feedback on draft videos, and more ways to test thumbnails and edits.

Featured Source

The goal is to move some of the trial-and-error that usually happens before publishing into the product. YouTube says channel-matched thumbnails and dynamic thumbnails can help creators test presentation: the latter can recommend one of three thumbnail options to different audience segments. It says creators have run more than 40 million title-and-thumbnail experiments since the original A/B testing feature launched in 2024. A coming feature will extend that testing to up to three cuts of a video, letting creators compare which hook performs best.

An assistant for the edit itself

YouTube is also integrating Gemini Omni into a conversational editing assistant for Shorts and its YouTube Create app. The company says a creator will be able to start from a suggested prompt or their own request, then get suggestions for reordering frames, trimming a video or syncing music to a beat. The editor is intended to work alongside manual timeline edits, not replace them outright.

Studio's existing Ask Studio feature is also being positioned as a maintenance tool. YouTube says it can review older videos in the background and suggest or test refreshed thumbnails, an attempt to give a back catalog another pass at finding an audience. The company is separately testing opt-in AI-powered comment moderation that it says will learn a channel's moderation style over time.

The viewer and Shorts side

The announcement is not limited to production software. According to the event's FAQ, Custom Feeds will be available to U.S. users on web, mobile and TV this fall, allowing people to curate their homepage around particular moods or interests. YouTube also says creators can organize Shorts into dedicated seasons and episodes, a change meant to make serialized storytelling and microdramas easier to follow on mobile and TV.

The practical distinction matters: YouTube has announced a mix of available tools, tests and future rollouts. The company has described the direction of the platform's creator workflow, but it has not said every channel will receive every new feature immediately.
