Apple is rearranging leadership around two of its most consequential business groups. Bloomberg reported that Carson Oliver has been promoted to vice president of the App Store, while Reuters reported that Apple appointed longtime insider Steve Smith to lead mergers and acquisitions.
Smith takes over the M&A and corporate development operation from Adrian Perica and will report to Chief Financial Officer Kevan Parekh, according to an internal memo reviewed by Reuters. MacRumors reported that the change moves the dealmaking team back into Apple's finance organization. The group's work extends beyond acquisitions to major corporate arrangements, including Apple's agreement to integrate ChatGPT into Siri.
Perica is staying at Apple. The memo says he will focus entirely on the services leadership team, report to services chief Eddy Cue and continue overseeing iCloud, Fitness+ and Apple News. Perica has held those services responsibilities since 2023 alongside his corporate development work.
Oliver's new title formalizes a role he has already been performing. MacRumors, citing Bloomberg, said Oliver has run the App Store since Phil Schiller stepped back from day-to-day leadership in late August. Oliver will continue reporting to Cue, whose services portfolio now includes the App Store.
The reshuffle separates Apple's dealmaking function from Perica's services responsibilities while formally elevating the executive already running the App Store. Apple did not immediately respond to Reuters' request for comment on the changes.
