TLDR

Meta has released open-source SDKs for connecting its Muse AI agent to ESP32 boards and Linux computers, including Raspberry Pis. Suggested projects include e-ink displays and Home Assistant integrations. Meta is also offering Home Link free to active US Muse subscribers, with October shipping planned. Claiming one reserves a place in line, not an order, and the device cannot be reflashed.

Meta has released Muse Gadgets, a set of open-source tools for building hardware around its Muse AI agent. The project offers separate SDKs for ESP32 boards and Linux computers, letting developers connect Muse to displays, buttons, sensors and other components.

Alongside the developer tools, Meta has built a device of its own: Muse Home Link. Engadget reports that the company is giving away a batch of 5,000 to Muse subscribers, citing Meta Superintelligence Labs product chief Nat Friedman.

What builders can make

The project site points developers toward an SDK token and example projects. Its ESP32 kit supports adding screens, audio input and output, and sensors. The Linux kit is intended for Raspberry Pis and other Linux machines, with custom commands for tasks such as working with a Home Assistant setup.

Examples include a Seeed color e-ink display for briefings, reminders and shopping lists, and small devices with screens and push-to-talk controls. An HDMI stick concept for putting Muse on a television is marked coming soon.

Meta lists the device SDKs and firmware under the Apache 2.0 license and provides them without warranty. It also notes that the third-party devices featured on the site are not endorsed or warranted by Meta.

Home Link has different limits

According to Meta’s Home Link page, the USB-powered gadget connects Muse to compatible devices on a home Wi-Fi network. Community-built skills provide functions such as controlling lights or TVs, depending on the setup.

Its firmware is based on the open-source ESP32 SDK, but Home Link itself only accepts official firmware and cannot be reflashed.

Meta offers one free Home Link per active Muse subscriber in the United States, with shipping planned for October on a first-come basis. The claim form reserves a place in line; it does not place an order.

The company also cautions that community skills can change or break and should not be relied on for safety-critical uses, including home security or emergencies.
