Elon Musk claimed in an X post that SpaceX’s Starlink service was being blocked in India by “certain oligarchs” seeking to maintain a “monopolistic chokehold” on the Indian people. He did not name anyone directly in that post.

Featured Source

Bloomberg, in a social post linking to its report, said Musk was accusing unnamed rivals of blocking Starlink in India and characterized the remarks as an apparent swipe at Mukesh Ambani and Sunil Bharti Mittal. A second Bloomberg post used the same framing.

India’s government rejected Musk’s claim. In a Forbes social post summarizing that response, the government was described as dismissing Musk’s allegation and saying it had put “fair and non-discriminatory” regulations in place to approve satellite communication services.

Separately, Business Standard reported that a SpaceX executive said Starlink’s infrastructure was ready and that operations were awaiting official approvals.

The supplied source packet does not include a direct public response from Ambani, Mittal or their companies. It also does not independently establish who, if anyone beyond the approval process, is responsible for delaying Starlink’s launch in India.

Mary Millben@MaryMillben@elonmusk, dear, because I greatly respect you, let me say this. Cozying up to the likes of @RahulGandhi will not escalate a Starlink license. But further delay it. Companies all over the world successfully do business with India. As you know, foreign partnership starts with respect for the country and its leadership. Rahul lacks respect for both his own country and PM Modi. He is bad company. And “the other guy” is one of the greatest and most powerful leaders in the world today and will be governing India a long time. You want a license? I suggest shifting your public messages to the attention of PM @narendramodi and not wannabees like Rahul. Congrats on your award today, BTW. Thank you for all your contributions to our great country. 🇺🇸2d
Rajni@RajniRajni2210@elonmusk Welcome to India, just keep a few things in mind. Elon, you said Starlink is for the "least served" areas. But the price and limited capacity might be a barrier for rural Indian families. @Starlink @SpaceX Whether it succeeds in India really depends on the hardware and monthly costs being affordable and easy for villages to use. Jio and Airtel offer 100-300 Mbps or 1 Gbps plans in cities for about ₹700–1,600, including OTT and TV, but Starlink is way more expensive than that. Starlink is useful when you've got no ground network. Starlink isn't going to become a major home internet provider in India. It'll stay an expensive but handy backup for places where nothing else reaches. Affordable, widespread service will still rely on Jio, Airtel, and upcoming Indian satellite options.2d
