TLDR

Game Informer describes an affecting but imperfect experience following Simon Ordell through the Scottish town of St. Amelia in 1996. It credits the first-person perspective, a shift Game Rant also praises alongside the combat and puzzles.

Eurogamer describes Screen Burn’s blend of stealth, meticulous world design and social realism as a different sort of survival horror. Polygon is more critical, saying the game is genuinely scary before getting dull.

Silent Hill: Townfall moves the series to St Amelia, a fictional Scottish coastal village, and early reviewers agree that the setting does important work. In VGC's review, Chris Scullion praises the village's detail, the puzzles and the performances. PC Gamer's review likewise finds the setting and psychological storytelling compelling.

Their overall assessments differ. VGC gives Townfall 3/5 because particular stealth encounters, especially those involving an enemy called the Weight, repeatedly interrupt what it otherwise considers a strong horror game. PC Gamer scores it 89 and highlights the balance of old Silent Hill ideas with the new handheld CRTV device, which helps the player investigate and track threats.

The two reviews point to a game whose atmosphere is a clear draw, with the largest disagreement over how much its uneven stealth affects the whole. Konami schedules Screen Burn Interactive's game for September 24 on PlayStation 5 and PC.
