Sony and Crunchyroll plan a PS5 anime hub for spring 2027

Sony Interactive Entertainment and Crunchyroll plan to add a dedicated anime destination to the PlayStation 5 home experience in spring 2027, according to Gematsu. The hub is meant to bring anime and anime-inspired games together with easy access to the full Crunchyroll app.

The announcement positions the hub as a discovery layer on the PS5 home screen that leads into the full Crunchyroll app. The companies say the space is designed to make it easier for PlayStation users to find and explore anime content.

The companies are pitching it to longtime anime fans as well as players who discover a series through a game, character or fictional world they already know. That gives Sony a way to connect its gaming audience with Crunchyroll’s catalog from a single place on the console.

Crunchyroll president Rahul Purini framed the hub as a further step in the company’s PlayStation partnership. He pointed to Crunchyroll memberships on PlayStation and the upcoming anime series as examples of the two brands already crossing over.
