Foundry Management debuts as an a16z- and Atlas-backed industrial AI founder program

In his launch post, Barnehama said the effort will recruit a small, select group of technologists and give them access to the Atlas portfolio, which he described as representing $26 billion in annual revenue across metals, paper, packaging, building products, automotive supply chains, energy, and logistics.

He said those participants will work alongside operators and management at those businesses to build products and technologies for industrial AI use cases. If one of those projects demonstrates the potential for an independent business, Barnehama said a16z and Atlas will support its creation, with the technologist leading it as founder and CEO.

Foundry Management’s own launch post describes the idea in similar terms. The company said Foundry was created by Atlas Holdings and a16z American Dynamism to give founders “a different place to begin” inside industrial businesses operating at scale, before a product or company already exists.

For now, the public details come from those launch posts. They frame Foundry Management as a selective program for technologists building industrial AI with access to Atlas-linked businesses, with company formation support promised if a project proves it can stand on its own.
